Social proofing#10

I’d be interested to read people’s commentary on some of the posts. Some people curate link blogs with extensive archives (e.g.: simonwillison.net) or post links on open platforms (bluesky, mastodon). Whether newer or older articles show up, I’d be interested to know if these people have commented on them before. Related: I’m also interested in reading if someone who shares my interests posts about an article that itself is maybe not as closely interest-related. Interest in this case acts not as direct similarity but more of a social proofing for the poster.

I think this would be a truly amazing feature. You could literally browse the social network around a certain topic. Often times really popular posts spawn response posts (and then those themselves spawn responses). It would be neat to be able to follow the thread of these. It’s probably hard to implement but it should be theoretically possible to build the graph by checking which posts link to other posts. I’m imagining that this would show near the related posts section at the end of a post: “Posts referenced in this article” and “Posts referencing this article”. Maybe with options to sort each list by chronological order or by “popularity” (measured by how many articles link to that article).

This has been added! You can now see when posts are linked to by other posts. And, if you’re logged in, the posts that reference the original will be sorted by which domains you tend to read and like the most.

For an example, take a look at https://scour.ing/p/https:%2F%2Fwww.anthropic.com%2Fnews%2Fclaude-fable-5-mythos-5 and https://scour.ing/posts/coverage/https:%2F%2Fwww.anthropic.com%2Fnews%2Fclaude-fable-5-mythos-5
